About Us

For the love of skiing -

the history of the Vorlage Ski Club

The club name is taken from the Norwegian word for that first day of ski school admonition - "Lean forward." On our logo, the skier does just that!

A 75 year old tradition of sport and community.

Vorlage Ski Club is a cooperative, family oriented group united by a love of skiing (both downhill and cross-country) as well as all things outdoors. Our origin combines two principal elements: (1) to provide economical accommodations and allow families to make more trips to this area of Vermont and (2) to establish a framework for good camaraderie that fits so well with the sport of skiing. Founded in 1948 in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Vorlage has successfully achieved both objectives for over seventy years.  We currently have over 25 families in membership and make good use of our Lodge on Route 4 in Vermont.  Our location is ideal for all to enjoy the town of Woodstock which is just 2.5 miles east.  We are a 30 minute drive to many fantastic ski areas such as Killington/Pico, 45 minutes to Okemo, and about an hour to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen.

Something to do for every season!

We have year round events which include a summer cook out, biannual work weekends at the lodge, holiday parties and other special events. Vermont is an amazing place all year round to visit with mountain biking, hiking, fall foliage, farmers markets and much more to experience.

Skiing with Friends and Family!

Vorlagers have an innate sense of adventure and find great joy in exploring the outdoors. We come from a variety of backgrounds and our love for the sport, fresh snow, and first tracks brings us together on the hill or around the warm fire in our elbow room. When you join us, expect to spend winter evenings by the fire comparing your best runs of the day or sharing stories of newly explored terrain.

Sit and Chat with one another!

Our lodge is a place to come, unplug and meet new and old friends and families alike. We pride ourselves on having a communal Saturday dinner. There is no TV at the lodge and although we do have wi-fi, electronics are asked to be used sparingly to encourage conversation between members.

A Simple Approach to Community Living

The Lodge, acquired in 1962, is located on Route 4 in West Woodstock, VT. Our location gives easy access to first tracks on snowy mornings. We have a detached double garage and large parking lot. In the spirit of tradition, the lodge has dormitory-style sleeping arrangements on the third floor where groups can bunk together.  Families are encouraged to room together on the second floor in the three available rooms with bunk beds in each room. The house is compliant with fire-safety systems, and has recently updated all mechanical systems.
